We visited Portland Rehabilitation Centre as part of our community outreach, while there we met with Lloyda McIntyre-Activities Director, volunteers, and patients. Portland Rehab Centre helps those men and women living on the streets, usually due to mental illness. The facility provides a bed, shower, food, clothing, medicine, and much more.
Lloyda is very dedicated to her work. One of her dreams is having school field trips come to the facility, so they can educate the youths about mental illness and its’ effects. In doing so, she hopes for a more compassionate and understanding generation. A new generation that will understand that mental illness is usually brought on by chemical imbalance of the brain and cannot be controlled without some form of help. Those well needed school field trips will build awareness on ways to help, which can be in the form of counseling, medication, love, and acceptance. This is just one of her dreams and I believe it will come true. Hooray for Lloyda and all the great folks at the Portland Rehabilitation Centre. Thank you for all your kindness and hard work.
